Human Services Foundations
What brought you to Fanshawe?
I had recently completed cancer treatments for stage IV cancer in 2006, during my final year of high school. I'd had other career plans, but cancer changed all of that. I felt very lost and needed to explore new potential career paths, so decided to take the Human Services Foundations certificate program.
Tell us about your favourite Fanshawe experience.
My favourite Fanshawe experience was discovering my passion for the field of psychology. I loved my psychology courses and realized that I thrived when learning about the science of psychology.
What impact has Fanshawe had on your life?
Attending Fanshawe allowed me to explore new paths and interests that I otherwise may not have discovered. It also helped me to develop confidence in my academic skills. I graduated with honours and my academic achievement at Fanshawe helped me to earn a scholarship when I later decided to enrol in the Honours Psychology program at Brescia University College in 2011.
What are you up to now?
Currently I am a fourth year PhD candidate in Medical Science at the University of Calgary Cumming School of Medicine. My doctoral project, The Chemo-Gut Study, investigates the effects of cancer treatments on gut microbiota, and gastrointestinal and mental health outcomes in cancer survivors.
