What brought you to Fanshawe?

I was recently separated and had three daughters and needed a secure job to provide a good life for my daughters. I only had grade twelve and I knew that wasn’t good enough to provide the life I wanted for them. I knew a college diploma was the direction I needed to go.

Tell us about your favourite Fanshawe experience.

I enjoyed the in-class learning and all the different ways I learned ( lectures, case studies, group work and independent study). I especially enjoyed the practical placements I had at different work places.

What impact has Fanshawe had on your life?

Earning duel diplomas in ECE/DSW has had an immense impact on my life and therefore on my children’s lives. Within a fairly short time ( 18 months) I received two diplomas through accelerated programs . It gave me the ability to have a career I enjoy but, most of all gave me the confidence to believe in myself.

What are you up to now?

I currently work for the school board. I work with students with educational needs, development disabilities, intellectual disabilities, physical needs and behavioural needs. Although it is a demanding career choice the rewards outweigh the demands. Going to Fanshawe College was one of the best decisions I made in my personal and professional life.
