What brought you to Fanshawe?

Ever since I was young I knew I wanted to create video games. Knowing how competitive the game industry is I wanted to create a skillset that would be applicable in the greater tech industry too. By completing both Computer Programmer Analyst and then Game Development at Fanshawe I knew I'd have skills for both my dream job and a wider skill set to fall back on as well. I was fortunate to break into the industry, it was a lot of work and the foundation I got at Fanshawe helped get me there.

Tell us about your favourite Fanshawe experience.

During my last weeks at Fanshawe, we were given a cumulative project to showcase the skills we had learned during our Game Development Post Grad. Being tasked with creating a video game from scratch was daunting but it encouraged me to work harder than I ever had before. When the project was done I had created a project I could show to employers, was fun to play, and showcased the skills I had learned along the way. It was the perfect capstone to my academic career, it was fun to develop, educational, and ultimately landed me a job.

What impact has Fanshawe had on your life?

My final project in the game development program directly introduced me to my first employer seeing my work and offering me a job within a few weeks. Not only did the courses teach me the skills needed but they put my talents in front of industry players. While in school I was able to start a professional relationship with many of my professors who were working in the industry. By starting a professional network while studying I was able to kickstart my dream job even before graduating.

What are you up to now?

I'm currently working as a Developer Advocate for Unity Technologies. I have the privilege to work with students from all over the world while helping to promote our software and solutions. I also create my own indie games and run game development community events.
